Olembe Sports Complex faces financial discrepancies in Cameroon

The Olembe Sports Complex in Cameroon is facing significant financial discrepancies and construction delays. Originally contracted to the Italian firm Gruppo Piccini in 2015 for 163 billion FCFA, the project was unilaterally terminated in 2019 due to delays ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. The contract was subsequently handed to Canada-based Magil Construction.

Official figures from the Ministry of Sports indicate that 155 billion FCFA has been spent to date, leaving only 8 billion FCFA to complete the remaining works. However, current progress shows the hotel is only 40% complete and the shopping center is at 50%. Furthermore, the main stadium has yet to receive official accreditation from the Confederation of African Football. Discrepancies remain as the Italian group Piccini has reportedly claimed 267 billion FCFA in relation to the project.
