Oleśnica train accident kills mother and daughter

A tragic accident occurred on Friday afternoon at an unprotected railway crossing on the outskirts of Oleśnica, Poland. A 45-year-old woman and her 9-year-old daughter were struck and killed by a train traveling toward Wrocław.

Preliminary investigations suggest the child ran onto the tracks as the train approached, and the mother ran after her in an attempt to protect her. The train was carrying approximately 120 passengers, none of whom were injured. The driver was interviewed by police and tested negative for alcohol.

Local residents have expressed long-standing concerns regarding the safety of this specific crossing, noting that overgrown bushes obstruct the view of oncoming trains and that vehicles often pass through at high speeds. Police are continuing to investigate the exact circumstances, utilizing onboard camera footage to reconstruct the event.
