Oleśno County Board rejects closure of maternity and neonatal wards

The Oleśno County Board has announced its opposition to the proposed liquidation of the maternity and neonatal departments at the Health Care Center in Oleśno. These departments were previously slated for closure as part of the hospital’s recovery program.

Local officials, including Starosta Bożena Konarska-Markiewicz and Council Chair Sylwia Kus, have requested an update to the recovery program. Instead of total liquidation, the council is seeking solutions to maintain operations, such as restructuring and reducing the number of beds to optimize costs.

The financial losses in these departments are attributed to a low number of births; officials estimate approximately 450 births by the end of the year, while 700 are needed for a positive financial outcome. Officials also noted that systemic issues, such as the undervaluation of medical procedures, impact the facility's financial stability.
