Olevano Romano: Carabinieri and Mayor injured in violent assault

A 29-year-old Senegalese man has been reported to authorities following a violent confrontation in the historic center of Olevano Romano, Italy. The incident occurred when the individual, described as being in a state of high agitation, began shouting and throwing flowerpots in the street.

Upon arrival, Carabinieri officers attempted to intervene, but the man reportedly attacked them with punches and kicks. The deputy commander of the station sustained a serious orbital fracture and underwent maxillofacial surgery at the Tor Vergata Polyclinic in Rome. Three other Carabinieri officers suffered various injuries and were treated at a hospital in Colleferro.

Mayor Umberto Quaresima, who also sustained a contusion to his arm during the struggle to calm the individual, stated that the local police and Carabinieri acted with professionalism. Authorities are currently verifying the man's administrative status and whether he is an asylum seeker. Local police are also conducting checks regarding the legality of his current residence.
