Olga Sánchez Cordero criticizes Mexico's judicial reform

Olga Sánchez Cordero, a former minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation and current federal deputy for Morena, has expressed critical views regarding the implementation of Mexico's judicial reform.

Reflecting on her 25 years in the judiciary, Sánchez Cordero contrasted the current landscape with the “golden age” of the Court, which she believes saw the consolidation of the institution as a true constitutional tribunal. She explicitly stated that she did not vote for the judicial reform, citing concerns over the selection of judges and magistrates through popular suffrage. She noted that the current design lacks the professional rigor seen in previous eras, suggesting that some elected judges may lack fundamental knowledge of legal proceedings.
