Olga Tokarczuk recognized in list of essential literary works
Nobel laureate Olga Tokarczuk has been recognized in a prestigious list of 50 literary works compiled by critic Jake Kerridge for the Daily Telegraph. The selection identifies books that every serious reader should own, placing Tokarczuk’s 2009 novel, ‘Drive Your Plow Through the Bones of the Dead’, alongside historical classics.
Kerridge described Tokarczuk’s work as an ‘unconventional crime mystery’ set on the Polish-Czech border. The list includes canonical works such as Homer’s ‘Iliad’, Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’, and Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’, as well as 20th-century masterpieces like James Joyce’s ‘Ulysses’. Tokarczuk’s inclusion highlights the strength of contemporary literature within the global canon.
