Olimpia clinches inaugural Honduran Supercopa with 1‑0 win over Motagua

Club Olimpia secured the first edition of the Honduran Supercopa, defeating city rivals Motagua 1‑0. The decisive goal came in the 54th minute after Jorge Benguché’s hold‑up allowed Emanuel Cuello to finish past goalkeeper Luis Ortíz.

The match, played at the Estadio Nacional in Tegucigalpa, featured tactical battles between Motagua’s Uruguayan coach Eduardo Espinel and Olimpia’s Spanish coach Javier López. Olimpia, the country’s most decorated club with 40 titles, added the new trophy as the season opener ahead of the Apertura campaign beginning 31 July. Motagua, the reigning league champion, will look to rebound after the loss.

The victory marks Olimpia’s continued dominance in Honduran football and sets the tone for the upcoming domestic season.
