Olimpia coach Vitamina Sánchez pushes for turnaround as Chilean defender Esteban Matus signs
Paraguayan club Olimpia suffered a 2‑0 defeat to Nacional, prompting coach Pablo “Vitamina” Sánchez to stress that his players must prove they are men and good footballers. Sánchez criticised under‑performing players such as Romeo Benítez and Rubén Lezcano and said the team must improve quickly after consecutive losses to Libertad and Nacional.
At the same time, 24‑year‑old Chilean left‑back Esteban Matus arrived in Asunción to join Olimpia. The defender, who left Audax Italiano, said coach Sánchez contacted him after a Copa Sudamericana group match and that he aims to become champion with the club. Matus will train alongside teammates including New Zealander Tim Payne as Olimpia, the Apertura 2026 champions, struggles at the bottom of the Clausura table.
