Olimpia wins capital derby as Marathón secures late victory
The third matchday of the Apertura 2026-2027 tournament in Honduras featured several decisive results. Olimpia secured a 3-1 victory against Motagua in the capital derby at the Estadio Nacional José de la Paz Herrera. Despite Motagua taking an early lead through Jhen Clever Portillo, Olimpia responded with goals from Chirino and José Raul García. A red card for Motagua's Dennis Melendez and a late goal by debutant Imanol Enríquez sealed the win for Olimpia, moving them to the top of the table.
In another match, Marathón achieved a dramatic 1-0 away victory against Choloma at the Estadio Rubén Deras. After a scoreless match, Jhonatan Paz scored in the 93rd minute to secure the win for the ‘Verdolagas’.
Génesis FC also secured a dominant performance, defeating Platense 3-0 at the Estadio Roberto Suazo Córdova. Goals from Denilson Núñez, Félix, and Elías Alderet ensured a convincing win for the La Paz-based side.
