Regional governments launch business credit and tax relief programs
Various regional governments and institutions in Brazil and Portugal are implementing financial programs to support small businesses and tax regularization.
In Brazil, several municipalities and states have launched initiatives to assist taxpayers and entrepreneurs. João Pessoa has opened 90 microcredit slots through the ‘Eu Posso’ program, specifically targeting micro-entrepreneurs and women. In Olinda, the Refis 2026 program offers up to 100% discounts on interest and fines to encourage debt settlement before a new national tax system is implemented. Additionally, the state of Bahia has released an edict allowing taxpayers to settle debts with discounts of up to 95%. In Paraná, Fomento Paraná has introduced a R$ 30 million rural microcredit line, featuring zero interest for female farmers.
In Portugal, the Alentejo 2030 Regional Program has announced 35 new funding opportunities totaling 208.9 million euros, scheduled between September 2024 and August 2027. These funds target strategic areas including housing, decarbonization, and digital administration. Meanwhile, in Leiria, municipal authorities have rescheduled 3.8 million euros in project funding to 2027 due to labor shortages and weather-related delays.
