Olio dei Colli di Bologna receives European PGI status
Olio dei Colli di Bologna has officially received European Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status. This recognition honors the agricultural traditions of the hilly areas south of the Via Emilia in the Metropolitan City of Bologna.
The municipality of San Lazzaro has expressed strong support for the designation, noting its impact on local olive growing, particularly in the Croara area. To further promote the region, San Lazzaro plans to join the Associazione Nazionale Città dell’Olio in 2025.
Local officials and representatives from the Colli di Bologna extra virgin olive oil network emphasize that the PGI status will foster sustainable development and enhance 'oleoturismo' (oil tourism), linking high-quality production with the local landscape, including the Gessi Park and UNESCO heritage sites.
