Olive McKenzie completes freshwater mural for elementary school

Olive McKenzie, an alumna of Orcas High School, has completed a vibrant freshwater-themed mural at a local elementary school to prepare for the upcoming academic year. The project was initiated by the school's new principal, Jennifer Johnston, and supported by a private donor.

McKenzie, who transitioned from pen-and-ink drawings to large-scale mural work, designed the piece to wrap around the entryway walls. The artwork complements existing saltwater and forest depictions painted by previous students and artists at the school. In addition to the mural, new walnut benches were donated to the hallway by the Stephenson family.
