Olive oil harvest begins in Lake Garda with high yields
The olive harvest has commenced in the Lake Garda region, with producers reporting a highly positive season for both quantity and quality. Confagricoltura Brescia noted that the 2026 campaign appears to be one of the best in several years, characterized by healthy fruit and high yields, reminiscent of the 2018-2020 period.
Despite summer heatwaves reaching 38-40 degrees Celsius, the high temperatures helped limit the presence of major pests such as the olive fruit fly. While some areas experienced smaller fruit due to water availability, the overall health of the crops is high. Agronomists suggest that while the harvest is underway, producers must be careful not to rush the milling process, as heat can affect fruit left too long in crates.
Economic factors remain a consideration, as rising production costs and labor expenses may influence market prices. Estimates suggest potential prices could range between 15 and 20 euros per kilogram. To combat future climate extremes, agricultural experts are emphasizing techniques such as soil cover management and the use of rock powders to regulate temperature and moisture.
