Olive oil pressing season begins in Jordan and Egypt

The olive oil pressing season has commenced in Jordan and Egypt, with significant developments in both regions to support local farmers and production.

In Jordan, the Ministry of Agriculture has authorized presses to begin receiving and processing olives for the 2026/2027 season. Mohammad Tayseer Al-Najdawi, head of the Olive Press Owners and Producers Syndicate, expects national production to reach approximately 30,000 tons, which is anticipated to meet domestic market needs. Preliminary estimates place the price of a 16kg container of olive oil between 90 and 110 dinars. Due to rising operational, energy, and labor costs, pressing fees have increased to 75 piasters per kilogram from 65 piasters last season.

In Egypt, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk launched the operation of the Al-Nathila olive press in North Sinai. This initiative aims to support sustainable agricultural development in the Sinai region by providing integrated services close to production areas. The move is designed to reduce transportation costs for farmers and enhance the quality and marketing opportunities of Sinai olive oil through improved harvesting, pressing, and packaging processes.
