Oliveanotherday prepares for Group 1 Manikato Stakes debut

Trainer Tom Dabernig is preparing the four-year-old gelding Oliveanotherday for his Group 1 debut in the $2 million Manikato Stakes at Caulfield this Sunday. The 1200-metre weight-for-age contest follows Oliveanotherday’s recent fifth-place finish in the Group 2 Bobbie Lewis Quality at Flemington.

Dabernig noted that the recent defeat at Flemington was likely due to the horse's first experience racing on a straight track and the Good 3 track conditions. While Oliveanotherday has won six of his nine starts, Dabernig expressed concern regarding the track surface, noting that the horse typically performs better on softer ground.

With Caulfield recently upgraded to a Good 3, Dabernig is hoping for rain to improve the track conditions. He remains optimistic that the experience of competing against seasoned sprinters will prepare the horse for the upcoming challenge against established performers such as Beiwacht, Jimmysstar, and Giga Kick.
