Oliver Bierhoff proposes Bundesliga playoffs and reflects on AC Milan career
Former striker and current commentator Oliver Bierhoff has proposed the introduction of a playoff system in the Bundesliga. During an interview on ‘Die Lage der Liga’, Bierhoff suggested that a direct elimination format could increase excitement and tension during the final stages of the German football season, potentially allowing non-top-ranked teams a chance to compete for the title.
Separately, speaking at the Trento Sport Festival, Bierhoff reflected on his professional career and his time at AC Milan. He identified Paolo Maldini as the greatest player he encountered, noting Maldini’s dedication and training habits. He also recalled the 1998-99 Scudetto-winning season, attributing the success to the hunger to win among a squad of experienced personalities including Boban, Donadoni, and Costacurta.
