Oliver Hildenbrand discusses coming-out in interview
Oliver Hildenbrand, the Minister for Social Affairs, Labour and Health in Baden-Württemberg, has shared details of his coming-out during an interview on the SWR program ‘Zur Sache! intensiv’.
The Green Party politician, born in 1988, reflected on growing up in the small village of Wessental. He noted that having a close friend who came out at a similar time provided mutual support during their school years. Hildenbrand emphasized the importance of visibility and providing role models to encourage others to live authentically.
During the discussion, he addressed the challenges of identity and cautioned against stereotypes regarding life in rural areas compared to large cities. He expressed a desire for a society where a formal ‘coming-out’ would no longer be necessary and advocated for a modern, broadly defined concept of family and legal equality for diverse lifestyles.
