Oliver Shoesmith sentenced to 10 months for indecent exposures on UK trains
Oliver Shoesmith, a 44‑year‑old serial sex offender, was sentenced to 10 months’ imprisonment at Northampton Crown Court on 13 July 2024 after pleading guilty to two counts of indecent exposure. The court also imposed a 10‑year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
The offences involved exposing himself to women on two separate journeys: on 20 August 2024 on a train from Guildford to Farnham, and on 22 August 2024 on a Brighton‑to‑Bedford service. Both incidents were investigated by British Transport Police. Shoesmith has prior convictions, serving three years for exposure and sexual assault in 2018 and a further two‑year‑four‑month term in 2024 for breaching a previous SHPO. He was arrested at HMP Five Wells on 6 November 2025, admitted the new offences, and was subsequently sentenced.
Detective Constable Ewen Roberts of British Transport Police said Shoesmith “repeatedly targeted lone women on the railway in deliberate and horrific acts” and emphasized that there is “no place for sexual offending on the rail network.”
