Oliver Solberg reflects on missed WRC title
Swedish rally driver Oliver Solberg has shared his reflections one month after narrowly missing the 2026 World Rally Championship title. Solberg lost the championship by five points following a mistake during the Sardinia powerstage, where he went off the road while battling teammate and eventual champion Elfyn Evans. Despite the error, Solberg secured the event victory.
Following his unveiling as a Toyota Racing driver for the GR Celica Rally1, Solberg stated that while the loss remains painful, he believes the championship was lost earlier in the season rather than in the final moments of the Sardinia race. He attributed the outcome to a combination of bad luck, such as having to cut rallies short, and a lack of experience in managing a full championship campaign.
Solberg noted that despite the highs and lows, he is proud of his season, which included a victory at the Monte Carlo Rally. He described the year as a significant learning curve regarding patience and consistency.
