Olivia Colman discusses marriage longevity with Ed Sinclair
Actress Olivia Colman has shared insights into her 25-year marriage to producer Ed Sinclair, emphasizing the importance of kindness and deliberate communication. Colman noted that neither she nor Sinclair are naturally confrontational, leading them to avoid heated arguments in the moment.
Instead, the couple utilizes a strategy of revisiting grievances during calmer, scheduled times. Colman described this approach by saying, “That thing on Tuesday, can we talk about that?”, allowing for more productive discussions once emotions have settled. She also referenced advice from a long-married individual suggesting that “sometimes it’s the things you don’t say,” though she noted that finding a gentle time to address genuine upsets is her preferred method.
The couple met while studying at Cambridge University during a Footlights production of Alan Ayckbourn’s “Table Manners.” They have been married since 2001 and have three children.
