Olivia Munn advocates for breast cancer risk assessments

Actress Olivia Munn is supporting the proposed Know Your Risk Act, a legislative effort involving Arizona Senator Mark Kelly. The act aims to make breast cancer risk assessments a routine component of medical checkups.

Munn shared that her own diagnosis of stage 1 invasive Luminal B cancer in both breasts was discovered following a risk assessment using the Tyrer-Cuzick calculator. Despite having a normal mammogram and reassuring genetic tests, the calculator identified her lifetime risk at 37 percent, prompting the MRI that led to her diagnosis.

Risk assessments help clinicians determine if additional screenings, such as yearly MRIs, are necessary for high-risk patients. The American Cancer Society recommends supplemental screening for women with an estimated lifetime risk of 20 to 25 percent or greater.
