Olivier Becht announces candidacy for French presidency

French deputy Olivier Becht has announced his candidacy for the presidential election. The former Minister of Foreign Trade under Elisabeth Borne revealed his decision in Paris Match, stating, “When you have no chance, you must seize it!”

Becht, who previously led the Agir ensemble group in the National Assembly and was affiliated with the Renaissance party, emphasized that he no longer belongs to a specific political camp, claiming, “My party is the French people.” He intends to run on the platform of his “Projet France” initiative.

Drawing on twenty-five years of local and national experience—including roles as a mayor, deputy, minister, judge, and university professor—Becht positioned himself as an experienced alternative to other candidates. He planned to make his official declaration in Rixheim, the town where he served as mayor from 2008 to 2017.
