Olivier Deschacht criticizes Anderlecht player transfer policy
Former defender Olivier Deschacht has expressed frustration regarding RSC Anderlecht's tendency to sell its top talent too quickly. While acknowledging the squad's quality, Deschacht argues that the club fails to build long-term stability by allowing key players to depart immediately after successful seasons.
Deschacht specifically highlighted the transfer of young midfielder Nathan De Cat to Hoffenheim as a significant error, stating that the player should have remained at the club for at least two to three years. He also noted the departure of Nathan Saliba as an example of the club losing players who provide essential stability.
Comparing the current era to his own time at the club, Deschacht pointed to former players Lucas Biglia and Mbark Boussoufa, who remained at Anderlecht for seven and five years respectively. He suggested that the modern market makes it difficult to retain talent, but emphasized that developing players is only half the battle; keeping them long enough to anchor the team is equally vital.
