Olivier Eddington's condition deteriorates during cancer clinical trial
Olivier “Livi” Eddington, a 17-year-old from Byron Bay, is facing a critical decline in health while undergoing treatment for a rare and aggressive brain tumour in the United States.
Eddington has been participating in a CAR T-cell clinical trial at the University of North Carolina’s Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. This experimental treatment involves re-engineering a patient’s immune cells to attack cancer. While the trial has been a focal point of his journey, which he has documented on TikTok, his condition has worsened significantly.
His family reported that he is currently unable to walk, talk, or perform basic tasks such as drinking water. Following a period involving seizures and intensive care, he is set to undergo radiation treatment. An online fundraiser has raised over $148,000 to assist with his medical costs in the US.
