Olivo de León: A life dedicated to journalism and labor activism

Olivo de León is recognized for his lifelong dedication to journalism and labor activism in the Dominican Republic. A prominent figure within the Colegio Dominicano de Periodistas (CDP) and the Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de la Prensa (SNTP), de León has been a decisive leader within the Movimiento Marcelino Vega, fighting for the rights of journalists and press workers.

Originally from San Francisco de Macorís, de León’s background includes extensive work with community and youth organizations, as well as advocacy for rural workers. Before committing to journalism, he spent nine years studying for the priesthood, earning a degree in Philosophy with honors, and also studied Library Science. His career has been defined by a commitment to social service and the defense of his colleagues' professional interests.
