Ollanta Humala to sue Peruvian state after investigation annulment

Former Peruvian President Ollanta Humala has announced plans to sue the Peruvian state following a decision by the Constitutional Court to annul a money laundering investigation against him. Humala, who recently completed 15 months of preventive detention at the Barbadillo prison, stated that his legal team is preparing a lawsuit to seek formal apologies for himself, his wife Nadine Heredia, and the Nationalist Party. He also intends to seek the restoration of the party’s official registration.

During a press conference with the Association of Foreign Press in Peru (APEP), Humala expressed that he does not rule out a return to politics in the future, though his immediate priorities are resolving remaining legal processes related to the OAS and Odebrecht cases and reuniting his family. He noted that his wife and minor son currently remain in asylum in Brazil, as he believes there are still insufficient judicial guarantees to ensure her safe return to Peru without further political persecution.

Humala criticized the Public Ministry, comparing the prosecution's tactics to historical political persecution. He maintained that his time in prison strengthened his conviction of innocence.
