Olmedo López and Sneyder Pinilla transferred to La Picota prison

The National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (INPEC) has ordered the immediate transfer of Olmedo López and Sneyder Pinilla from military detention facilities to the La Picota prison in Bogotá. Both men are central witnesses in the corruption investigation involving the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), a scandal linked to the irregular handling of funds for water tankers.

López, the former director of the UNGRD, and Pinilla, the former deputy director, had previously been held in special facilities for members of the Public Forces. The transfer, formalized via Resolution 008041, will be conducted under maximum security measures to ensure the safety of the inmates and prevent escapes or attacks.

President Abelardo de la Espriella confirmed the order, stating that the move aims to eliminate special privileges for those involved in the scandal. However, Pinilla’s defense has challenged the decision, arguing that the transfer poses a significant security risk to his client and could jeopardize his ongoing cooperation with justice authorities.
