Olomouc Archdiocese reports increased economic profit
The Olomouc Archdiocese reported a significant increase in economic profit, reaching 206.8 million CZK last year, an increase of nearly 92 million CZK compared to the previous period. This profit is generated through business activities, including real estate and land rentals, forestry, financial investments, and entrance fees for cultural sites.
The archdiocese uses these funds to subsidize its core spiritual and pastoral activities, which remain loss-making. The deficit for these primary activities, which include pastoral work, charitable events, priest services, and church repairs, rose to 117 million CZK.
Key financial details include: • Business revenues reached 600 million CZK, while costs fell to 393.4 million CZK. • The largest expense in core activities was personnel costs for priests and pastoral staff, totaling 201.5 million CZK. • State contributions for operations amounted to 82.1 million CZK, a figure that is gradually decreasing as part of property settlements.
The archdiocese is also managing challenges related to a declining number of believers and priests, leading to plans for restructuring its network of over 400 parishes.
