Olomouc region municipalities consider lawsuits over wind energy zones

Mayors from approximately 30 municipalities in the Olomouc region of the Czech Republic are considering filing lawsuits with the Supreme Administrative Court regarding the designation of acceleration zones for renewable energy. These zones, specifically in the Přerov area and the Záhoran microregion, are intended to simplify the permitting process for wind turbine construction.

Local leaders have expressed significant grievances regarding the designation process. Radovan Mikuš, mayor of Všechovice, criticized the lack of communication with local authorities and argued that the zones were placed in locations where the state expected minimal resistance. He noted that while current regulations suggest a 500-meter distance from residential areas, noise studies indicate a minimum of 1,500 meters is necessary to protect residents.

In a separate legal action, the town of Moravský Beroun has already submitted a proposal to the Supreme Administrative Court to cancel the Norberčany acceleration area. The town challenges both the change to the territorial development plan and the territorial measures governing the construction and operation of wind turbines, arguing that the established rules are insufficient to mitigate impacts on the landscape and quality of life.
