Olomouc to expand urban greenery in outlying districts

The city of Olomouc plans to increase greenery in its outlying districts, specifically targeting Černovír, Chválkovice, and Nemilany. Supported by a 7.5 million CZK grant from the European Union, the project involves transforming fields into a landscape of meadows, trees, and shrubs.

According to Jana Matzenauerová, head of the municipal greenery department, the initiative will introduce native species such as oaks, lindens, maples, and various fruit trees during the autumn months. These areas are intended to function as biocenters and biocorridors to support local flora and fauna, improve soil protection, enhance water retention, and mitigate the effects of high temperatures.

This initiative follows previous landscape modifications in Lošov and Slavonín, where terracing and fruit tree planting were implemented to improve climate resilience and local biodiversity.
