Olomoucký Region approves 850‑million‑CZK flood protection project for Troubky

The Olomoucký Regional Office issued a unified environmental opinion approving a long‑planned flood protection scheme for the village of Troubky in the Přerov district. The project, estimated at about 850 million CZK, will build roughly 5.5 km of flood defenses, including earth dams, sections of reinforced‑concrete walls and mobile barriers, to shield the community from a "century flood" on the Bečva River.

Mayor Martin Frgal said engineering work will be completed this year and a building‑permit application will be submitted. Funding will mostly come from the Ministry of Agriculture, with the project also requiring the removal of 182 trees and nearly 9,500 m² of shrubbery; the Morava River Basin Authority must compensate by planting 260 trees and 60 shrubs and maintaining new vegetation for five years.

Troubky suffered devastating floods in July 1997 – half the homes were destroyed, nine people died and damages reached 700 million CZK – and again in spring 2010. Construction could start next year with completion anticipated within two years, aiming to prevent similar losses in the future.
