Olsztyn advances urban and historical preservation projects

Olsztyn is undergoing various urban and historical preservation efforts across its city squares.

Andrzej Wakara Square, named in 2003 to honor the regional historian who authored the first monograph of the city, is being highlighted as part of a series exploring the history of Olsztyn's 21 squares. The site, located between the former regency building and several streets, currently serves as a tram stop and local square.

Simultaneously, reconstruction work is progressing at Jedności Słowiańskiej Square in front of the High Gate. The large excavation site, created during archaeological work on medieval fortifications, has been filled according to conservation guidelines. Current works include installing new sidewalk surfaces, recreating the outline of the ancient rondel, and adding new lighting and walking paths. Mayor Robert Szewczyk indicated plans to expand the project to include the renovation of stairs leading from the Fish Market toward Nowowiejskiego Street, pending approval from the Provincial Office for the Protection of Monuments.
