Olsztyn Castle to Close for Major Renovation Until 2029

The Castle of the Warmian Chapter in Olsztyn will be closed to visitors for a comprehensive modernization project costing about 76 million zł, with work scheduled to finish by the end of 2029. The renovation will address structural and conservation work on all parts of the complex, including the Baroque wing, towers, façades, interior walls, and the courtyard, which will be equipped with new small‑architecture elements. A modern library will be built in the former guardhouse, featuring an exhibition on Nicolaus Copernicus as a Renaissance figure, and accessibility upgrades such as an elevator and updated restrooms will be installed. While the castle is closed, the museum continues to display permanent and temporary exhibitions, including a dedicated Copernicus exhibit and collections on regional art and religious heritage.

The project aims to preserve the historic site, which dates back to the 14th century and has hosted notable figures such as Copernicus, while modernizing facilities for future visitors.
