Olt County authorities remove 67,000 animals from official livestock records

Authorities in Olt County, Romania, have removed over 67,000 animals from the National Database following inspections conducted by the Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Directorate (DSVSA) between May and August 2026. The discrepancies revealed that a significant number of livestock were no longer present at their registered locations, and owners failed to provide documentation to justify their disappearance.

The removed livestock includes 33,663 sheep, 25,775 goats, 4,418 pigs, 3,358 cattle, and 19 buffaloes. Most of these irregularities were found in holdings owned by individuals or authorized natural persons. Owners could not demonstrate whether the animals had been sold, slaughtered, died, or transferred elsewhere. The removal from official records was ordered to prevent the improper granting of agricultural subsidies for livestock that no longer exist.
