Oluremi Tinubu calls for policy inclusion for rural women

Nigerian First Lady Sen. Oluremi Tinubu has called for concrete action and inclusive policies to improve the welfare of rural women. Speaking at a symposium in Abuja to commemorate International Rural Women’s Day, Tinubu emphasized the need to move beyond verbal appreciation toward providing greater opportunities, protection, and inclusion for women in rural areas.

Addressing the Association of Wives of FCT Traditional Rulers (WOFCTTRA), the First Lady highlighted that while rural women are the backbone of local economies and cultural preservation, they face systemic hurdles. These barriers include limited access to education, healthcare, land ownership, finance, and decision-making processes.

Tinubu urged the wives of traditional rulers to leverage their grassroots influence to drive gender equity, economic empowerment, and community peacebuilding. She encouraged them to use their proximity to market associations and women’s groups to bridge the gap between rural realities and leadership.
