Oluremi Tinubu inaugurates renovated Alternative High School for Girls in Lagos
Nigeria's First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has inaugurated the renovated Alternative High School for Girls in Agboju, Lagos State. Represented by the wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, the First Lady emphasized that girl-child education is essential for nation-building.
Originally established in 2007 during President Bola Tinubu’s tenure as Governor of Lagos, the school serves girls whose education was interrupted by socio-economic challenges or early pregnancy. The renovated facility includes over 26 classrooms, science laboratories, and specialized spaces for cosmetology, garment-making, hairdressing, catering, and home economics, alongside ICT and library facilities.
The renovation and equipping of the school were facilitated by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). The First Lady commended UBEC Executive Secretary Dr. Aisha Garba for improving the learning environment and noted the ongoing construction of another alternative high school in Ikorodu, Lagos.
