Atiku rejects Obasanjo bribery claim, warns of political agenda ahead of 2027 election

Former Vice‑President and ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has repeatedly denied former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s allegation that he paid N5 million to the late Speaker Ghali Umar Na’Abba to launch an impeachment plot. Atiku says the revived accusation is a false, politically‑motivated move designed to damage his reputation and advantage Obasanjo’s preferred candidate in the run‑up to the 2027 presidential election. He urged Obasanjo to declare openly whom he supports rather than relying on untestable claims involving a deceased witness.

Atiku also criticised President Bola Tinubu’s handling of the pension backlog and the United States civil‑forfeiture case, rejecting the presidency’s use of China’s drug‑law comparison and defending the legitimacy of his own legal record. He called the US‑based lobbying effort against Tinubu an inappropriate foreign‑policy tactic and reiterated that no court had ever found him guilty of corruption or related offenses.
