Oluwatobi Adegoke arraigned by EFCC for alleged vehicle import fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Oluwatobi Adegoke, a Nigerian-American, before the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos State. Adegoke faces a one-count charge of stealing related to an alleged cross-border vehicle import fraud.

Investigations by the EFCC’s Ilorin Zonal Directorate suggest Adegoke was part of a United States-based syndicate that targeted Nigerians by promising to purchase and ship luxury vehicles from the US. While residing in the United States, Adegoke allegedly used photographs of a 2024 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG to solicit funds from prospective buyers.

While preliminary reports indicated two victims lost a combined sum exceeding $320,000, the formal charge filed in court alleges the dishonest conversion of $680,000 belonging to Ikechukwu Osita Ifeabunike in December 2024. Adegoke has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
