Oluwatosin Ajayi praised for professionalizing Nigeria’s DSS
Public affairs analyst Usman Okai Austin has lauded Oluwatosin Ajayi, the Director-General of Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS), describing him as the most professional security chief in the agency’s history.
According to Austin, Ajayi has transitioned the DSS toward intelligence-driven operations and covert actions designed to neutralize threats before they escalate into public confrontations. Key improvements noted include enhanced cooperation with the military, police, and international partners to address cross-border security, as well as the integration of modern technology to combat digital threats and attacks on critical infrastructure.
Austin further highlighted Ajayi’s efforts to rebuild public trust by prioritizing the rule of law, respecting human rights, and ending arbitrary arrests and detentions. The analyst also credited Ajayi with improving staff welfare, training, and maintaining the agency’s independence from political interference.
