Olwethu Makhanya named Rangers Player of the Month

Rangers defender Olwethu Makhanya has been named the Scottish Premiership Player of the Month for September. The 22-year-old South African international joined the club from Philadelphia Union in the summer and has since become a key figure in the defense under manager Derek McInnes.

Makhanya’s recognition follows a successful period for Rangers, which included a perfect September with five wins across all competitions and a notable victory in the Old Firm derby against Celtic. The defender has made 11 appearances this season and has formed a defensive partnership with Emmanuel Fernandez.

In addition to his club success, Makhanya recently represented Bafana Bafana during the FIFA international break, contributing to three consecutive victories against Guinea, Eritrea, and Egypt. He also revealed that club legend Richard Gough reached out to him via social media to offer professional advice following his impressive start at Ibrox.
