OLX users targeted by fraudulent SMS phishing scams
Cybercriminals are targeting users of the OLX classifieds platform through a wave of fraudulent SMS messages. Analysts from CERT Orange Polska have reported a continuous influx of messages where scammers impersonate platform administration.
The scams typically use high-pressure tactics, such as warning users of imminent account blocks or requiring urgent profile verification. These messages often use sender names like ‘Alert’, ‘Authorization’, or ‘Verifier’ to appear legitimate.
Clicking the provided links directs users to fake OLX websites designed to harvest personal data and phone numbers. The process often escalates to requesting bank selection for identity verification, which allows criminals to steal login credentials and access bank accounts. Experts advise users to check browser addresses carefully and contact their banks immediately if credentials have been compromised.
