Olymel opens $142 million integrated plant in Quebec
Olymel has inaugurated a new $142 million integrated plant in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, marking one of the largest modernization projects in the company’s history. The facility has expanded from 51,700 to 137,200 square feet and has quadrupled its annual production capacity to 50 million kilograms of pork and poultry.
The state-of-the-art plant integrates processing, slicing, and packaging under one roof. It produces the majority of Olymel’s deli meats sold across Canada, including La Fernandière sausages and hams. The project has also resulted in the creation of approximately 100 new jobs.
To support a goal of reducing operations-related greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030, the facility utilizes automation, artificial intelligence, and energy-efficient technologies. Notable features include an industrial battery system—an industry first in Canada—designed to reduce strain on the Hydro-Québec power grid by storing energy during low-demand periods.
