Panathinaikos and Olympiacos clash over coach's social media post

A social media post by Olympiacos coach Imanol Alguacil has sparked a heated dispute between Greek football giants Panathinaikos and Olympiacos. Following a 1-0 derby victory, Alguacil shared photos on Instagram, including an image of a fan choreography from a historic 2003 match.

Panathinaikos issued an official statement condemning the post, citing “arrogance, disrespect, and fanatical behavior” that they claim lacks institutional seriousness. The club argued that the post fails to distinguish between a professional role and the behavior of a fanatic supporter, noting a “chaotic distance” between the philosophies of the two clubs.

Olympiacos responded by dismissing the criticism, suggesting the accusations stem from frustration and characterizing the dispute as a clash between “the world of truth and the world of lies.”
