Olympiacos B.C. enters legal dispute with Thomas Walkup

A major contract dispute has erupted between Olympiacos B.C. and American guard Thomas Walkup. Walkup has issued a unilateral written termination of his contract, seeking immediate release to join Dubai BC, which has reportedly offered him a contract worth approximately 3 million euros annually.

Olympiacos has rejected the move, stating that Walkup is legally bound to the club until the summer of 2027. The club characterized his action as “without cause” and demanded his presence for scheduled medical and ergometric tests on August 20. Following his absence from these tests, Olympiacos has called for an official explanation and indicated it will pursue all legal means to protect its interests, including potential claims for lost profits and defamation.

The dispute is expected to move to the Basketball Arbitral Tribunal (BAT) in Geneva. While Walkup argues that the significant offer from Dubai justifies his release, EuroLeague framework agreements generally prohibit players from negotiating with other clubs without their current team's consent while under contract.
