Olympiacos signs Mexican striker Armando González from Chivas
Olympiacos FC has officially completed the signing of 23-year-old Mexican striker Armando ‘Hormiga’ González from Chivas Guadalajara. The transfer was finalized for a reported fee of $10 million, plus $2 million in variables, with Chivas retaining a 20 percent stake in any future sale.
González, a former top scorer in Mexico, has already begun training under manager José Luis Mendilibar. He will wear jersey number 34. The player has expressed his eagerness to debut, potentially as early as August 30 against Asteras Tripolis. He has also requested that his nickname, ‘Hormiga’, be printed on his jersey, a request currently under review by the league.
His father noted that while AC Milan had previously monitored the player, the move to Greece was completed rapidly within a week due to the strong interest shown by Olympiacos. González stated he is undeterred by critics regarding the timing of his move to Europe, emphasizing that the club’s commitment made his decision clear.
