Olympiacos strengthens youth academy with two new signings
Olympiacos is strengthening its youth development departments with the acquisition of two promising young players: Sami Mecheleb and Thanasis Christopoulos.
Sami Mecheleb, an 18-year-old left-footed winger of French-Algerian descent, joins from the Genoa U18 squad. He is expected to initially play for the club’s B team and U19 squad. Mecheleb brings experience from the Italian youth system, having recorded 22 appearances, two goals, and one assist last season.
Thanasis Christopoulos, an 18-year-old versatile defender, joins from Legia Warsaw. Previously part of the Asteras Tripolis academy, Christopoulos gained experience in the UEFA Youth League and won the Polish U19 championship twice. He is capable of playing as a left-back, central defender, or defensive midfielder and has represented Greece at the U15, U17, and U19 national levels.
