Olympiacos beats Rakow 2-1 in pre‑season friendly
On 8 July at the Vlaardingen complex in the Netherlands, Greek champions Olympiacos opened their summer preparation with a 2‑1 win over Polish side Rakow. Rakow took the lead in the 70th minute through a header by M. Brunes. Olympiacos equalised in the 85th minute when Kostas Fortounis scored directly from a free‑kick, stating “Είμαι πολύ χαρούμενος που επέστρεψα… ” (I am very happy to be back). Roman Giannetsouk secured the victory with a header in stoppage time (90+3). Coach José Luis Mendilibar rotated the squad heavily, giving minutes to many players as part of his pre‑season testing. The club’s next friendly is scheduled for 11 July against Belgian side Leuven, followed by further matches against Forthuna Sittard, Aias, Anderlecht and Al‑Kmaar.
