Olympiacos prepares for Champions League qualifier under coach Mendilibar
Coach José Luis Mendilibar said Olympiacos' training level is high and the squad has reached a better state of readiness this week, bringing the team closer to his expectations. He highlighted the integration of academy players, noting that the Greek Cup now requires two U‑21 players in the lineup, prompting the inclusion of youngsters such as Christos Filis and Giorgos Siotis. Mendilibar also noted that the transfer window remains open until early September, so further changes are possible.
Olympiacos completed a series of friendlies in the Netherlands, with the last test on 24 July against Almere City. The club will face NAC Breda in the first leg of the Champions League third‑qualifying round on 4 August at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium. If they progress, they must navigate a play‑off round to reach the Champions League group stage; otherwise, they will drop into the Europa League. The preparation schedule also included matches against Anderlecht and other Dutch sides, with several senior and youth players rotating to assess squad depth.
