Olympique de Marseille abandons Depay pursuit, eyes affordable Egyptian striker

Olympique de Marseille explored the possibility of signing Dutch forward Memphis Depay, who is nearing the end of his contract with Brazil's Corinthians. The club concluded that Depay's wage demands—estimated at €400,000 per month, roughly €4.8 million a year—exceed Marseille's salary cap imposed by the DNCG, and therefore the deal will not proceed.

Meanwhile, Marseille has turned its attention to Egyptian attacker Haissem Hassan, currently with Spanish side Real Oviedo. The 24‑year‑old, noted for a World Cup assist against Argentina, is available for a €10 million release clause. The club sees him as a financially realistic replacement for departing forward Mason Greenwood and other outbound players, aligning with its need to reinforce the attack while remaining within budget constraints.
