Olympique de Marseille appoints Bruno Genesio as coach, boosting Algerian stars Abdelli and Gouiri

Olympique de Marseille has reached an agreement with former Lille manager Bruno Genesio to become the club’s head coach, signing a contract that runs until June 2028 with an option for extension. The appointment follows a turbulent season under Roberto De Zerbi and Habib Beye and is seen as a fresh start for the French Ligue 1 side.

Algerian internationals Amine Gouiri and Himad Abdelli have welcomed the move. Gouiri previously worked with Genesio at Olympique Lyonnais in 2017 and at Stade Rennais in the 2022‑23 season, while Abdelli, who joined Marseille in winter 2023 on a contract until 2030, fell out of favour under Beye and hopes the new manager will give him a second chance to revive his career.
